The civic body aims to admit fifty thousand new students to its schools within one month to tackle falling student numbers. The choice came from an Education Committee meeting on Monday led by chairman Yogesh Verma. Verma told officials to plan a special admission campaign using teachers, parents, community groups, and non-government organisations. Teachers must visit local areas every Saturday to talk to families and urge them to send their kids to these schools. The Education Department must also push the School Chalo Abhiyan forward. Teachers who bring in seventy-five new admissions will be considered for the Nagar Nigam Shikshak Award.
School Fixes
Apart from admissions, officials must fix basic problems in the schools. They need to find schools that need repairs for classrooms, toilets, drinking water, and power systems. The committee also pointed out a shortage of sanitation workers and security guards. Officials must speed up plans to hire nearly three thousand people for these jobs. Other plans include better sports facilities through public-private partnerships, an MCD Mini League, clean drinking water, clean toilets, and better mid-day meals.
