What Happened
Three young students died and another was seriously hurt after a high-speed BMW car crashed on Mumbai's coastal road early Sunday morning. The victims were 21-year-old Shanay Gajjal, 19-year-old Aditya Jakasania, and 17-year-old Dhairya Seth. All three died in the accident, while Aditya Oswal suffered serious injuries. The group originally came from Ahmedabad and stayed in Mumbai for their studies. Shanay and Aditya Oswal studied architecture at a college in Kurla. Dhairya and Aditya Jakasania attended a prominent management college in the western suburbs. They lived in hostels and as paying guests in upscale areas like Santa Cruz and Juhu.
Police Investigation
Police suspect the young men consumed alcohol before the crash and have sent blood samples to the forensic department for testing. The driver at the wheel during the crash, Shanay Gajjal, has a history of drunken misconduct. Police inquiry revealed that cases were previously filed against Shanay at Bandra and Gamdevi police stations. The Bandra case involved creating a ruckus while drunk. The Gamdevi case involved speeding, hitting a motorcycle rider, and arguing with them, following a complaint filed by Tardeo resident Omkar Shirke. A viral social media video shows Shanay behaving rudely with Omkar Shirke and his wife during that incident, while allegedly intoxicated. Dhairya Seth also appears in the same viral video.
