The University of Bristol is planning to open a new Mumbai Enterprise Campus to give Indian students access to UK higher education at a lower cost and closer to home. Professor Evelyn Welch, the President and Vice-Chancellor of the university, stated that studying at the Mumbai campus will cost about one-third of the price of studying abroad. The upcoming campus aims to build a long-term partnership between the UK and India while supporting the goals of the National Education Policy 2020. The institution plans to steadily grow its student numbers over the next five years. Officials are currently looking at offering courses in areas where Bristol is strong, specifically focusing on business, intelligent systems, data science, and technology. These programs will be adapted for the Indian context by using local examples and focusing on internships and job skills needed by Indian employers. Students may also get the chance to spend short periods, semesters, or entire years at the main Bristol campus in the UK, while Bristol students could visit Mumbai in return. Academic standards will be kept consistent across both locations through regular monitoring, deep teaching connections, and having the Mumbai campus leadership report directly to university leaders in Bristol.
