The Tata Nexon iCNG recently completed a round trip of more than 770 kilometres from Ahmedabad to Dholavira and back, carrying two people, luggage, and a boot full of camera equipment without needing a single fuel stop. Traditional CNG vehicles usually force drivers to accept compromises in performance, boot space, and cabin features, but the Nexon iCNG takes a different path with its 1.2-litre turbocharged CNG powertrain. This setup makes it India's only turbo CNG offering, providing enough power for easy overtaking and climbing slopes without the strained feel common in standard CNG cars. Inside the cabin, the vehicle keeps the high-end equipment expected from a modern SUV, such as a 10.25-inch touchscreen, digital instrumentation, ventilated seats, a voice-assisted panoramic sunroof, and a 360-degree camera. Instead of taking up the entire luggage area, the twin-cylinder layout places the CNG tanks beneath the boot floor. This leaves a 321-litre luggage compartment along with a spare wheel mounted under the body. The system also starts directly in CNG mode, meaning drivers do not have to plan their routes around gas stations. During the test drive, the vehicle travelled past Kutch towards the Road to Heaven before returning to Ahmedabad with the trip meter crossing 770km by the end of the journey.
