Launch
JSW Group has entered India’s electric commercial vehicle market with the launch of AMPSTAR, its new EV bus and truck brand under JSW Greentech Limited. AMPSTAR will design, manufacture and sell electric buses and trucks covering city, intercity, employee and school transport, with power options from 150 kW to 500 kW.
Production & Capacity
Vehicles will be built at a new 90‑acre facility in AURIC, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra, using a pre‑treatment and electro‑deposition (PT‑ED) line for buses and an automated cabin line for trucks. The plant’s initial capacity is 15,000 units per year, scalable to 30,000, and the project has attracted an investment of roughly Rs 2,500 crore. JSW aims to produce at least 10,000 vehicles in FY28, equating to about 67‑68 % capacity utilisation, and expects the first‑year output to be sold out.
Market & Demand
AMPSTAR offers outright purchase, leasing and Battery‑as‑a‑Service, and will also provide charging infrastructure, financing, operating solutions and after‑sales support. Early sales are driven by captive demand: the first 100 electric buses have been delivered to JSW Steel’s Dolvi site and another 100 electric trucks are slated for JSW Steel and JSW Cement. The average selling price across the range is around Rs 80 lakh, giving a potential revenue of about Rs 12,000 crore at full capacity. JSW has localised most bus and truck components and developed its drivetrain software in‑house, enabling custom configurations for customers.
