Hyundai has revealed key technical details for the fifth-generation 2027 Tucson during a media event in South Korea, ahead of its domestic market release in October 2026. The updated SUV features a larger body, improved aerodynamics, and two distinct powertrain choices, though the company has not announced any timeline for a launch in other countries.

Dimensions and Design

Compared to the older model, the new Tucson is 60mm longer and 40mm wider, with a wheelbase that has grown by 30mm. These larger proportions expand second-row headroom by 29mm to 1,031mm, while the rear doors now open wider to 83 degrees instead of 73 degrees. The vehicle adopts Hyundai's 'Art of Steel' design language, featuring vertical H-shaped LED daytime running lights, a slim center light strip, and a prism-effect rear light setup. Buyers can choose from eight body color options, including Serenity White Pearl, Driftwood Grey Matte, Driftwood Grey Metallic, Redrock Orange Matte, and Goyo Copper Pearl. A rugged XRT trim adds a distinct grille, wheel-arch garnish, and skid plate.

Performance and Aerodynamics

Under the hood, the non-hybrid variant uses a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 193hp and 265Nm of torque, paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox. This represents a 13hp increase over the previous version. The hybrid model combines a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine with a next-generation hybrid system to deliver a combined output of 245hp and a claimed mileage of 17.4kpl. Both versions feature a reduced drag coefficient of 0.30, down from 0.33, achieved through active air flaps, a roof spoiler, a rear bumper spoiler, and new 17-inch wheel designs. To improve ride quality, Hyundai reinforced the suspension mounting points and underbody structure, added a new suspension valve, and introduced sound-deadening materials including thicker door glass.

Technology and Safety

The interior features a floating-style dashboard, a D-cut steering wheel, a slim digital driver's display, and a choice of 12.9-inch or 17-inch touchscreens. Cabin themes include Mud Grey & Dove Grey, Black & Sand Beige, and Black & Inlay Soil Brown. Safety equipment includes 9 airbags as standard, navigation-based adaptive cruise control, and front and rear collision-avoidance assist. Additional technology comprises a memory-based reverse assist that automatically retraces the vehicle's path, a Ground View function for the underside, and the Pleos Connect system with built-in Gleo AI and app market support.
