Mahindra has launched the updated Thar OG three-door SUV with a starting price of Rs 10.32 lakh, matching the base price of the outgoing model's entry-level trim. This new version brings several mechanical and cosmetic changes, including a fresh platform, revised suspension, electric power steering, and higher engine outputs. The vehicle competes with body-on-frame SUVs like the Force Gurkha and Maruti Suzuki Jimny. Externally, the Thar OG features a redesigned front grille with 'Thar' lettering, new LED headlamps with C-shaped daytime running lights, and LED fog lamps with cornering functions. The bumpers have been reworked, and the SUV sits on a wider track with new 19-inch alloy wheels, revised LED tail-lamps, and tailgate branding. Two new body paint options, Artemis Silver and Jeans Blue, join the color lineup. Inside, the cabin gets Truffle Brown leatherette seats, a second-row armrest with cupholders, and lower noise and vibration levels. Safety equipment sees a major boost with the introduction of six airbags on select variants, featuring a special four-point airbag system designed for side impacts. Disc brakes are now fitted at all four wheels, supported by an electronic stability program suite that includes roll-over mitigation, traction control, hill-hold control, and vehicle dynamics control. Underneath, the vehicle utilizes Mahindra's M_Glyde 4G platform for greater structural strength and a rear Pentalink suspension with a Watts Link. It also features frequency-dependent dampers and an electronic locking differential alongside terrain modes for mud, sand, and snow. The hydraulic steering has been replaced by an electric power steering system to simplify parking and low-speed driving. Engine choices include a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol producing 162 horsepower and 330Nm of torque, and a 2.2-litre diesel making 152 horsepower and 330Nm. The entry-level 1.5-litre diesel remains unchanged at 117 horsepower and 300Nm. Buyers can choose between a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission, with options for rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive depending on the variant.
