More than ten companies have set Friday, October 23, as the record date for corporate actions including dividends, stock splits, and bonus shares. Because the Indian stock market follows a T+1 settlement cycle, investors must purchase shares before the record date to qualify. This makes Thursday the final eligible buying day for these stocks.

Corporate Actions

Firms in focus during the trading session include Tech Mahindra, Indian Railway Finance Corporation, ICICI Lombard General Insurance, Modison Limited, Oberoi Realty, 360 One WAM Limited, Artemis Electricals and Projects Ltd, Bhansali Engineering Polymers, and Garuda Construction and Engineering. Companies such as 360 One WAM, Artemis Electricals, Bhansali Engineering Polymers, Garuda Construction, HDB Financial Services, ICICI Lombard General Insurance, Modison, and Tech Mahindra have fixed dates for interim dividends. Meanwhile, Titan Biotech announced a bonus issue in a one-to-four ratio, and Azad India Mobility set a stock split from ten rupees to two rupees.

Market Trend

In the broader market, the Indian stock market formed a bearish candle with a lower high and lower low in the previous session, pointing to a continuation of corrective bias. The Nifty 50 Index closed below its twenty-day Exponential Moving Average. Pabitro Mukherjee, Deputy Vice President of Research at Bajaj Broking, noted that the Nifty failed to move above Monday's high of 23,175 and dragged sharply lower. Mukherjee added that support lies at 22,500 to 22,400 levels, while a move above 23,175 could signal a pullback toward 23,300 and 23,500 levels.

Context

Corporate actions like dividends, bonus shares, and stock splits are common ways companies share profits or adjust share prices to make them more affordable for retail buyers. The T+1 settlement rule means trades are settled on the next business day, which is why investors need to buy shares ahead of the record date to be officially listed as shareholders.
