Delhi Police Unit To Probe Viral Video Showing Racial Abuse Against Youth From Tripura

The Investigation

The Delhi Police's Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations unit will investigate a viral video showing a content creator allegedly subjecting a youth from Tripura to racial abuse and humiliation. The police's Special Police Unit for North Eastern Region formally asked the IFSO unit to take up the case on Thursday, October 22, 2026. Police personnel visited the home of the content creator, identified as Amir Shokeen, but a senior officer said he was found absconding.

Official And Public Outcry

The case follows widespread social media condemnation. Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju posted on X that the accused would face punishment and that the Delhi and Tripura police forces would teach him a hard lesson, adding that there was a delay in lodging the official complaint. Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha directed his State's Director General of Police to coordinate with the Delhi Police. The Tripura Students Forum Delhi filed a formal complaint on October 21 seeking an urgent and impartial investigation, alleging the video showed sexual assault, harassment, and humiliating treatment by a social media content creator operating the Instagram account @amirshoksen.

Context

Online harassment and racially derogatory content directed at individuals from the Northeast have prompted strict administrative responses from law enforcement agencies in the capital. Student bodies often step in to formally report such incidents to specialized units like SPUNER, which handles grievances affecting people from northeastern states living in Delhi.
