Key benchmark indices faced a sharp decline for the third straight session on Thursday as the Nifty 50 dropped 123 points to 22,687, the BSE Sensex fell 460 points to 73,249, and the Bank Nifty lost 51 points to close at 54,925. Despite this widespread market sell-off, recently listed tile maker Varmora Granito managed to attract strong buying interest from investors.
Financial Results
The small-cap company, which holds a market capitalization of roughly ₹3,000 crore, saw its shares climb 1.60 percent to finish at ₹135 apiece on the National Stock Exchange. The positive momentum follows the release of strong financial figures for the second quarter and first half of fiscal year 2027. Varmora Granito reported a 498 percent year-on-year surge in profit after tax to reach ₹53.7 crore for the first half of the year, aided by growth in its premium tile and technical product lines. Total revenue from operations for the six-month period ending September 30, 2026, rose 3.3 percent to ₹714.2 crore.
Market Context
For the September quarter alone, the firm generated ₹399 crore in revenue, marking a 9 percent annual increase and a 27 percent sequential jump. Net profit for the same quarter hit ₹44 crore, representing a 206 percent rise compared to the same period last year. These figures follow a challenging June quarter where production in Morbi faced severe disruptions and plant closures due to surging natural gas prices and supply chain gaps tied to the Middle East conflict.
Analyst Outlook
SEBI-registered market analyst Anujm Gupta noted that the strong earnings report was heavily cheered by market bulls. Mahesh M Ojha, vice president of research and business development at KC Securities, explained that the firm successfully navigated a difficult natural gas supply crisis that affected the broader tile manufacturing industry. Analysts point out that the stock has immediate support at ₹124 and faces a key resistance hurdle at ₹146, with potential upside targets reaching ₹170 if it breaks past that threshold.
Context
Small-cap stocks are generally more volatile than large-cap companies, meaning they can experience sharper price swings during broader market downturns. When individual small-cap firms report unusually high earnings growth shortly after an initial public offering, they often capture heightened investor attention even when macro market trends are negative.
