Netflix has launched the official trailer for Akka, a crime drama starring Keerthy Suresh and Radhika Apte in a story about family rivalry and control. The series is set to premiere on October 30. YRF Entertainment has produced the show, which comes written and directed by Dharmaraj Shetty.
Pernuru Kingdom
The story takes place in Pernuru, a fictional place where powerful women have maintained traditions and held authority for generations. That long-standing order begins to break down when an outsider challenges the established system. At the center of the conflict are Bhavani, played by Keerthy Suresh, and Rudra, played by Radhika Apte. The two characters hold different ideas about power and how far they should go to protect what matters to them. Their personal clash threatens to turn into a much larger battle to control Pernuru.
Cast and Creators
Keerthy Suresh stated that her character Bhavani is a woman who knows her values and fights to protect her legacy, adding that working with Radhika brought an intense energy to the project. Radhika Apte noted that her character Rudra refuses to let circumstances define her, bringing a fierce ambition to the screen. Tanya Bami, who serves as Series Head at Netflix India, mentioned that the show places women at the center of the power structure, featuring performances from Radhika Apte, Tanvi Azmi, and Keerthy Suresh. Director Dharmaraj Shetty explained that the project offered a chance to present the gangster genre within an unusual setting driven by relationship dynamics, thanking producers Aditya Chopra, Akshaye Widhani, and Yogendra Mogre at YRF Entertainment. The wider cast also features Tanvi Azmi, Mahesh Manjrekar, Anshuman Pushkar, and Monica Panwar.
Context
This upcoming release is the latest project emerging from an ongoing partnership between Netflix and YRF Entertainment. Their earlier collaborative titles include The Romantics, The Railway Men, Maharaj, and Mandala Murders. Crime dramas centering on regional gang wars and family legacy have increasingly found a wide audience across Indian streaming platforms.
