India will back any genuine attempt to bring peace to Ukraine and West Asia, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Thursday after meeting Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk in New Delhi. Tusk is on a three‑day visit aimed at strengthening ties as the world pushes to end the Ukraine war. The two leaders announced a series of decisions to deepen the strategic partnership between their countries. They agreed to expand cooperation in defence, space and nuclear energy and invited Polish firms to co‑develop and co‑produce projects with Indian counterparts in those fields. Both sides said the growing economic strength of the bilateral relationship creates fresh opportunities, and noted that India’s free‑trade pact with the European Union will reinforce trade links. Modi highlighted that India and Poland share democratic values and respect for the rule of law, and called for reforms to make global governance institutions more effective. The joint statement reaffirmed India’s commitment to support every meaningful peace effort in Ukraine and West Asia.

Context

India and Poland have been expanding defence and technology collaboration since signing a strategic partnership in 2022. The free‑trade agreement between India and the EU, which came into force in 2024, lowers tariffs for many goods, making joint projects easier. Both governments see the partnership as a way to balance the influence of larger powers in the Indo‑Pacific region.
