Rajinikanth's new action film Jailer 2 has crossed the Rs 300 crore mark at the Indian box office within its first week of release.

Box Office Numbers

The Tamil sequel pulled in a net domestic collection of Rs 317.20 crore in India along with Rs 205 crore from overseas markets. This brings the total worldwide gross to Rs 576.45 crore before the end of its first week in theatres. The film has now surpassed Ajay Devgn's Drishyam: The Conclusion, making it the second-highest-grossing Indian film of 2026 so far.

Cast And Crew

Released on October 15, the film is directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and produced by Kalanithi Maran under Sun Pictures. Music composer Anirudh Ravichander scored the film's soundtrack. Rajinikanth reprised his lead role as retired jailer Tiger Muthuvel Pandian, acting alongside returning cast members Ramya Krishnan, Mirnaa, and Rithvik. The new cast features SJ Mithun Chakraborty, Suraj Venjaramoodu, and Vidya Balan.

Plot And Reviews

The story follows Tiger Muthuvel Pandian as he faces new enemies from an idol-smuggling network while trying to protect his family and deal with the reality of his son's death from the first part. Actor Allu Arjun shared a review on X praising the film and Rajinikanth's star power, noting in Telugu that only Rajinikanth can cross the 500-crore mark without tearing his shirt.

Context

Blockbuster sequels in major regional Indian film industries frequently break opening-week box office records by leveraging established character franchises and wide holiday or festival release windows. High overseas earnings alongside strong domestic ticket sales often drive these massive multi-hundred-crore worldwide totals for top superstars.
