Actor Rajinikanth's new movie Jailer 2 has earned more than Rs. 549 crore worldwide in its first week. This makes it the highest-grossing first-week film in the history of Tamil cinema. The movie started strong and kept up its high earnings through the extended opening weekend. Within just three days, the global collection had already passed Rs. 325 crores.

The film is directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and produced by Sun Pictures. Its strong earnings come from both domestic and international markets. Even though it set a major record, the movie faced a brief setback in North America where screenings at York Cinemas were stopped due to missing KDMs.

Rajinikanth remains one of the biggest stars in the Indian film industry with a massive fan following across generations. Big budget Tamil action films frequently pull in massive global opening numbers due to high overseas demand among the Indian diaspora.
