Energy Minister K.J. George praised the Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation for setting a Guinness World Record with a massive drone display during the Mysuru Dasara festival. The four-day event at the Bannimantap parade grounds featured twelve distinct visual setups in multiple colors and patterns. The highlight was a giant peacock shape built using 3,473 drones. This follows a previous record set last year with a tiger formation. The 11-day celebrations wrapped up on Wednesday, October 21.

Festivities And Lights

Mr. George, who handles both the Energy and Tourism portfolios, also commended the extensive street lighting that decorated the city. The decorative lights spanned 146 kilometers of roads, 123 traffic circles, and key locations, alongside 80 artistic light installations. He noted that managing the power network for such a massive gathering requires careful technical planning and teamwork. CESC managing director M.S. Archana stated that the public has given a strong positive response to these displays. The street lights will stay switched on until October 31 so residents and visitors can keep enjoying them.

Context

Large-scale public celebrations in India often rely heavily on state electricity boards and municipal corporations to handle massive temporary power grids and decorative setups. Mysuru Dasara is a major cultural event that draws large crowds of visitors every year, making public lighting and safety a major logistical undertaking for local authorities.
