Mahindra has launched an updated version of its vehicle named the Thar OG, arriving just a year after its previous refresh to help set it apart from the larger Thar Roxx.

Platform And Suspension

The new model is built on the M_Glyde 4G platform, which is also used by the Thar Roxx and brings higher structural stiffness than the older version. Mahindra has also added a rear Penta-link suspension with a Watts Link, a setup shared with the Scorpio-N. It also features Frequency Dependent Damping, known as DAVINCI dampers, which first appeared on the XUV 7XO.

Performance And Handling

The vehicle upgrades its mechanical locking differential to an electronic unit and adds terrain modes for Snow, Sand, and Mud, alongside Zip and Zoom drive modes. For the first time, the Thar uses electric power steering instead of the older hydraulic system. Engine choices include a 2.2-litre diesel producing 152 hp and 330 Nm, which is a rise of 18 hp and 30 Nm, and a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol delivering 162 hp and 330 Nm, marking a boost of 10 hp and 30 Nm.

Safety And Features

Top-end variants offer six airbags with a Head-Pelvis-Thorax-Shoulder system, along with all-wheel disc brakes and front parking sensors, though six airbags do not come standard across all versions. Interior updates bring leatherette seat upholstery, a rear center armrest with cupholders, a wireless phone charger, push-button start, and headlamp cornering functions. Exterior styling changes include 19-inch wheels, dual-tone bumpers, and new LED headlamps, fog lamps, and taillamps.
