US and Iranian officials held an unexpected three-hour meeting in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. The discussion took place through a Qatari mediator after US President Donald Trump warned he could destroy Iran if a deal was not reached to end the ongoing war. Iranian officials laid down several conditions, demanding an end to the fighting, the halting of US aggression, the lifting of a naval blockade, the cessation of economic warfare, and the release of frozen Iranian funds. Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that Trump remained open to meeting Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. In South Africa, a violent attack at a house party in KwaZulu-Natal province left 11 people dead and three others injured. Police reported that the victims included a woman believed to be pregnant and 13 men. Ten individuals died at the venue, while one more passed away after being taken to a hospital. In Indonesia, the death toll from the capsized ferry Virgo Transport 8 climbed to 20 in the Java Sea. The vessel was carrying 243 people, including 30 crew members, when it overturned in rough weather during a voyage from Surabaya to Banjarmasin. Rescue workers have accounted for 108 survivors while 115 people remain missing, with divers hampered by murky water and strong currents while searching the ship's cabins.
