Ladakh has updated its rules for giving medical and dental college seats to students. The health and medical education department released these new rules after the creation of seven new districts in the area. Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena approved the updated guidelines. Officials stated that the administration has replaced the old system with a single merit list for MBBS and BDS seats under the Central pool.

Old Versus New Rules

The previous system started in 2021 and used different categories and a roster system to admit students. Those categories included reserved and unreserved groups, male and female applicants, and students from Leh and Kargil districts. The new guidelines remove those separate categories and the roster system. Now, authorities will prepare only one merit list based entirely on NEET rankings. The domicile district, gender, and reservation status of the candidates will no longer affect this list. Students will get admission to medical and dental colleges based on their NEET scores and the choices they fill out.

Seat Details And Timeline

For the 2026-27 academic year, the Centre has given Ladakh seven MBBS seats and two BDS seats from the Central pool. The seven MBBS colleges are Lady Hardinge Medical College in New Delhi, LLRM Medical College in Meerut, Maulana Azad Medical College in Delhi, RSDKS Government Medical College in Ambikapur, Dumka Medical College in Jharkhand, MLB Medical College in Jhansi, and Chandulal Chandrakar Memorial Medical College in Durg. The two dental colleges are KG Dental College in Lucknow and Government Dental College in Indore. Eligible students with a valid NEET rank have a window of seven days to apply for these seats through the official Ladakh NIC portal.
