The Election Commission of India has strongly denied a news report claiming that two of its three poll commissioners opposed decisions regarding the Special Intensive Regulation process. In an official statement released on Wednesday, the poll body stated that internal checks and balances are standard practice inside a multi-member constitutional body. The clarification arrived during a major political storm where opposition parties accused the commission of trying to hijack the election system and placing democracy in danger. The poll body explained that while its three members often share different views, suggestions, or feedback during discussions, every final decision is approved unanimously by all members. According to the commission, questions or inputs raised by commissioners while reviewing drafts should never be mistaken for final decisions. Differing opinions form a normal part of how any institution works before it reaches a final conclusion, the statement noted. The commission added that not just the three commissioners, but every single officer working for the body has full authority to offer suggestions aimed at improving the country's electoral system. All actions taken by the commission remain fully aligned with existing laws and official instructions.
