India, France and the UAE are expanding their three-way partnership to focus on artificial intelligence, space, energy, health sciences and culture. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot and UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan met on September 22 in New York on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly to review this cooperation.

Four Priority Areas

France stated that the trilateral format, which was first set up in February 2023, is being relaunched to focus on four main areas: culture, the environment, AI and space. India also pointed out that health sciences and energy are key sectors for joint work. Officials agreed to hold regular meetings to track progress on concrete initiatives, though they have not yet announced a detailed roadmap for specific projects, funding amounts or hiring targets.

Complementary Strengths

The partnership brings together unique strengths from each nation. India contributes a large tech workforce, digital public platforms and experience in rolling out services on a mass scale, alongside the IndiaAI Mission. The UAE offers financial capital and heavy investments in computing infrastructure and data centres. France adds a strong base in research and technology, along with active involvement in European technology rules and governance.

Impact on Jobs and Startups

While the meeting did not set specific job targets, future joint projects could drive up demand for specialists in machine learning, data science, AI engineering, cybersecurity and governance. Startups could gain major benefits if the framework successfully connects Indian tech talent and engineering skills with UAE capital, computing resources and French research expertise.
