Mahindra has launched the new Thar OG with a price range starting at Rs 10.32 lakh and going up to Rs 18.99 lakh. This vehicle brings updates across its platform, cabin, off-road features, and engine performance.

Platform And Suspension

Thar OG is built on a new platform called the M_Glyde 4G ladder-frame chassis, which is a shorter version of the platform used in the 5-door Thar Roxx. This chassis gives the SUV higher structural stiffness and torsional rigidity for both road and off-road use. The vehicle also uses a new rear PENTALINK suspension setup with a Watts link, along with DAVINCI damping technology, which is a frequency-dependent damping system designed to cut down body roll and improve comfort. An electronic locking differential replaces the older mechanical version and comes exclusively with 4WD variants, which also feature Mud, Sand, and Snow terrain modes.

Engine And Design

Mahindra has boosted the power output of two main engines while keeping the entry-level 1.5-litre diesel engine performance the same. The 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine now puts out 162 PS and 330 Nm of torque, up from the older version's 150 PS and up to 320 Nm. The 2.2-litre diesel engine now generates 152 PS, which is higher than the previous 132 PS, and torque has gone up by 30 Nm to reach 330 Nm. Transmission choices include 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic options for the 4WD models, while rear-wheel-drive versions paired with these two engines come only in automatic. Outside, the SUV features a new five-slot grille with a THAR badging side insert, updated front and rear bumpers, a wider track, 19-inch alloy wheels on higher variants, and LED fog lamps with a cornering function.

Cabin And Variants

Inside the cabin, updates include a leatherette-wrapped steering wheel, embossed leatherette seats, a second-row soft armrest with a cupholder, a push-button start system, a Type-C port for rear passengers, wireless charging for front occupants, and an electric power steering system. Safety upgrades cover six airbags and disc brakes on all four wheels. Mahindra has organized the lineup into new variant options, starting with the base AXT variant powered by the 1.5-litre diesel in 2WD format. The LXT trim offers seven variants priced between Rs 12.99 lakh and Rs 17.99 lakh, and the ZXT variants are priced from Rs 13.99 lakh to Rs 18.99 lakh.
