Salary Advance
Central government employees are set to receive their monthly salaries early because of an upcoming bank strike. The Ministry of Finance is arranging to credit salaries tomorrow.
Strike Impact
Bank workers belonging to seven unions under the United Forum of Bank Unions have called a three-day nationwide strike from September 28 to 30. They want a five-day work week and other key demands met. Since September 26 and 27 are weekend holidays, banks will stay closed for five days in a row. This makes it impossible to credit salaries on the usual pay date of September 30. Former government employees who get pensions will also likely receive their money tomorrow. The government has not released an official statement yet.
Holiday Bank Opening
To help the public, the Reserve Bank of India gave permission to open all public sector banks and regional rural banks on Sunday, September 27. Private companies that pay salaries through banks might also use this open day to pay their workers on September 27.
