Mumbai Meetings

Central government employees and pensioners could see big changes to their pay under the upcoming 8th Pay Commission, with a series of official discussions currently underway across various cities. The commission will hold a meeting in Mumbai on October 22 and October 23, 2026. Central government organizations, institutions, associations, and unions have been called to speak with the commission.

Application Process

The Ministry of Finance released a notification on September 21 detailing the process for these talks. Interested stakeholders had to submit their appointment requests online using a specific form by October 10, 2026. This Mumbai visit is part of a larger stakeholder consultation process by the commission. Earlier, the 8th Pay Commission also visited Bengaluru on October 7 and October 8, with a request deadline of September 18.

Employee Demands

Employees and pensioners have placed several major demands before the commission during these meetings. Their key requests include a higher fitment factor, a yearly increment increase, merging the Dearness Allowance, raising the House Rent Allowance, increasing pensions, and bringing back the old pension scheme.

Salary Projections

Workers are asking for a fitment factor of up to 2.75. If the government accepts this demand, the minimum basic salary could jump from 18,000 rupees to 49,500 rupees. Similarly, the basic pension could rise from 12,000 rupees to 33,000 rupees. Employees are also asking for an annual increment of 6 percent to fight rising prices. Another major demand is to merge the current Dearness Allowance, which stands at 60 percent, directly into the basic salary.
