Mumbai crime branch teams have recovered two firearms and ten live cartridges from Surat in Gujarat in connection with the firing at actor Tiger Shroff's car. The recovery took place on Friday during targeted operational raids after investigating officials tracked the logistical trail of the weapons provided to the assailants. The recovered weapons and ammunition are now undergoing forensic examination and ballistic testing to match them with empty shell casings from the crime scene. Police stated that further investigation continues to trace more links in the weapon supply chain.
Background
On the evening of October 18, at least two men fired five to six rounds at Mr. Shroff's car in the Juhu area of Mumbai before escaping on a motorcycle. The actor escaped relatively unhurt, but his driver and a bystander sustained injuries. Investigators later found the abandoned motorcycle in Andheri. Ten persons have been apprehended so far from Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana, while gangster Anil Pandit remains a wanted accused. Pandit, an alleged associate of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang believed to be operating from the U.S., had claimed responsibility for the attack in a social media post. Mumbai Police registered a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act for attempt to murder and other offences.
Context
High-profile shooting cases involving film personalities often draw intense scrutiny from law enforcement and the public, leading to multi-state manhunts and coordinated efforts across city police units. Ballistic testing and forensic analysis play a vital role in connecting recovered firearms directly to the physical evidence collected at a crime scene. Gang-related extortion and threats directed at public figures remain a serious challenge for urban security agencies in India.
