Punjabi singer Daler Mehndi's son, Gurdeep Mehndi, has called a recent public dispute involving his father in Uttarakhand very unfortunate and confirmed that his family is dealing with significant stress.
The Incident
The controversy began on Sunday night when Daler performed at a regional development fair in New Tehri, Uttarakhand. Uttarakhand Cabinet Minister Subodh Uniyal interrupted the set and publicly scolded the artist on stage. The minister alleged that the singer was intoxicated and unable to stand properly, pointing out that he was only lip-syncing despite being paid thirty-five lakh rupees for the gig. A video of the sharp exchange quickly spread across social media platforms.
Family And Industry Reaction
Gurdeep stated that he was abroad when the event happened, but his father assured him that he was fine. Mika Singh, Daler's brother, strongly defended him by asserting that Daler never consumes alcohol and calling the accusations entirely false. Mika also noted that both brothers received a phone call from Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, who apologized for the minister's actions and stated that the artists remain welcome in the state.
Context
Public figures performing at state-sponsored cultural events often face intense scrutiny from local politicians and audiences when things go wrong on stage. Such incidents highlight the sometimes tense relationship between visiting commercial performers and local political authorities in India.
