Karan Johar Overtakes Amitabh Bachchan on Hurun Wealth List as Fortunes Shift in Bollywood

Amitabh Bachchan and his family grew their wealth over the past year, yet slipped behind filmmaker Karan Johar on the latest Hurun India Rich List due to a massive surge in Johar's financial standing. Last year, Bachchan and his family held an estimated net worth of Rs. 1,600 crore, placing them fourth among Bollywood's wealthiest, while Johar stood fifth at Rs. 1,400 crore. In the new list, Bachchan's estimated wealth nudged up to Rs. 1,630 crore, representing a Rs. 30 crore increase. Meanwhile, Johar's fortune jumped to Rs. 1,880 crore, marking a Rs. 480 crore rise that wiped out the previous Rs. 200 crore gap and placed Johar Rs. 250 crore ahead of Bachchan. This shift moved Johar up to fourth place and pushed Bachchan down to fifth. Johar's latest figures received a boost during a period that included turning part of his stake in Dharma Productions into cash. Other Bollywood figures also saw major gains, with Shah Rukh Khan recording a dramatic surge in wealth and Juhi Chawla posting a substantial rise, while Bachchan's portfolio reflects a career built over decades without a comparable single transaction driving year-on-year movement.
