Biocon Group chairperson Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw has shared her daily fitness and diet routine in an exclusive interview in Bengaluru. At 73 years of age, the self-employed billionaire has a net worth of over 3 billion dollars according to Forbes, and runs Asia's largest insulin manufacturing ecosystem. Speaking on the sidelines of Suhel Seth's book launch at The Leela Palace Bengaluru, she revealed her well-being relies on a strict morning physical routine rather than fad diets or biohacks.

Daily Routine

Mazumdar-Shaw walks at least two kilometres every morning in her Bengaluru neighbourhood where the air is pure. Her morning regimen also includes aerobics, a little bit of yoga, and a quick swim. In total, she dedicates about one and a half hours every day to these physical activities, logging over ten hours weekly. This physical activity surpasses World Health Organisation guidelines for adults aged 65 and over, which recommend 150 to 300 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity per week, along with muscle-strengthening and balance work.

Diet Preferences

When it comes to nutrition, she avoids intermittent fasting and sticks to clean boundaries. Her diet includes no fried food, no dessert, no sweets, and very low carbohydrates, though she drinks coffee whenever she wants. Mazumdar-Shaw is a first-generation entrepreneur who started Biocon in her garage in 1978 and has led it for over four decades. Her honours include the Padma Shri in 1989, the Padma Bhushan in 2005, and a spot on the TIME 100 list in 2010.
