Mahindra has launched the XUV 3XO with a factory-fitted CNG kit, marking its first CNG vehicle aimed directly at private buyers rather than commercial fleets. The compact SUV is priced between Rs 9.99 lakh and Rs 12.27 lakh, spanning four variants. It costs roughly Rs 1 lakh to Rs 1.2 lakh more than the equivalent petrol models.
Performance and Mileage
The vehicle runs on a turbo-petrol engine paired with a 10-bar CNG injection system. It delivers 111 horsepower and 200 Nm of torque in both petrol and CNG modes. A 60-litre twin-cylinder setup sits beneath the boot floor to preserve luggage space. In real-world tests, the car achieved 16.75 km/kg in the city and 22.29 km/kg on the highway, resulting in an overall efficiency of 19.52 km/kg. The ARAI-claimed efficiency stands at 24.7 km/kg. On petrol power alone, the car returned an overall efficiency of 12.07 km/l.
Driving Range
A full CNG tank provides a driving range of 150 to 160 kilometres. The 42-litre petrol tank offers an additional real-world range of about 500 kilometres. Combined, the vehicle delivers a total driving range of roughly 650 to 660 kilometres.
Context
Factory-fitted CNG options have gained massive popularity among Indian car buyers seeking lower running costs compared to petrol and diesel. Modern dual-cylinder setups solve the old problem of losing entire boot spaces to bulky gas tanks. Testing mileage under strict real-world conditions helps buyers understand actual fuel costs before making a purchase.
