Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the Indian Air Force 'Wings over Ganges' air show at Namo Ghat in Varanasi on Sunday. The final day of the three-day event marked the 94th anniversary of the Indian Air Force. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath joined the Prime Minister at the venue.
Air Show Highlights
The aerial display featured the Sukhoi-30 MKI, indigenous Tejas and LCH Prachand fighter aircraft, alongside helicopter performances. Three Kiran planes flew in a 'V' formation using national flag colors, while Mi-17 helicopters carried the tricolour in an Omkar formation. The Surya Kiran aerobatic team and the Sarang helicopter display team also performed stunts and precision maneuvers for the gathered crowds.
Public Reception
Large crowds gathered along the route from the police lines to Namo Ghat to welcome the Prime Minister. Local residents and BJP workers greeted him with rose petals, traditional music and cultural programs at points including the Police Lines main gate, City Railway Station and Gol Gadda crossing. Spectators chanted "Har Har Mahadev" and "Jai Shri Ram" as Mr. Modi acknowledged them from his vehicle.
Textile Unit Opening
Earlier in the day, Mr. Modi inaugurated a new garment manufacturing unit belonging to Arvind Ltd in the Mirzamurad area. The facility aims to boost local industrial growth and connect Varanasi-made garments to global markets. During his visit, the Prime Minister interacted with about 300 women at the site, with officials noting the project is expected to create jobs and drive regional economic activity.
Context
Varanasi is the parliamentary constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, making it a frequent focal point for high-profile infrastructure and public events. Air Force outreach displays like this one are regularly conducted across various Indian cities to build public engagement and inspire youth toward military service.
