UPDATE - follow-up to PM Modi witnesses IAF air show in Varanasi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the Indian Air Force air show 'Wings over Ganges' at Namo Ghat in Varanasi alongside Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

The Air Display

The three-day air show marked the 94th anniversary of the Indian Air Force and featured fighter jets like the Sukhoi-30 MKI, home-grown Tejas, and LCH Prachand, alongside helicopter displays. Three Kiran aircraft flew in a 'V' shape using the colors of the national flag, while Mi-17 helicopters carrying the tricolour formed an Omkar shape. The Surya Kiran and Sarang teams also performed precision flying and aerial stunts for the crowds.

Public Reception

Residents and BJP workers lined the streets from the police lines to Namo Ghat to greet the Prime Minister with rose petals, music and cultural shows at designated spots. Spectators like Divakar Singh and Govind Pandey shared that watching the display with their local Member of Parliament brought them great pride and could inspire young people to serve the country.

Other Events

Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister inaugurated a new Arvind Ltd garment manufacturing unit in the Mirzamurad area and interacted with about 300 women. The facility is set to create jobs, boost local business, and help connect Varanasi-made garments with global markets.

Context

Varanasi is the parliamentary constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, making it a frequent site for high-profile public visits and infrastructure and industrial project launches. Public air shows organized by the armed forces in major cities serve to showcase military readiness and foster public connection with the defence forces.
