Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar warned that the state government will take appropriate action against private companies found deliberately denying employment opportunities to local candidates.

The Complaints

Mr. Shivakumar stated that the administration has taken the issue seriously following complaints on social media that native Kannada speakers are being sidelined. Recently, an online post by a woman alleged that Bengaluru-based companies were rejecting candidates who mentioned Kannada on their resumes. She also claimed that few local individuals were being hired and that those selected received lower salaries, prompting her to seek intervention from the Chief Minister.

Government Stand

Addressing the public through the platform X, the Chief Minister emphasized that the rights, dignity, and opportunities of local residents will not be disregarded under any circumstances. He noted that while Bengaluru is recognized globally as the technology capital of the country, the government takes immense pride in the skills and talent of local workers and remains committed to protecting their interests.

Context

Issues surrounding regional representation in private sector employment often surface in major industrial and technology hubs across the country. Governments frequently face pressure from citizens and local groups to ensure that native residents secure a fair share of jobs generated by regional economic growth.
