Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar announced on Sunday that the Karnataka Public Service Commission will be reformed based on the view of a cabinet sub‑committee led by Health Minister U.T. Khader. He told reporters in Bengaluru that the committee’s opinion on overhauling the examination system will be taken into account. Shivakumar said a need to reform the KPSC has been flagged by national leaders urging changes in education. The cabinet sub‑committee, chaired by Khader, has been given specific guidance, and Home Minister Priyank Kharge has discussed cleaning up the exam process with the chief minister. Shivakumar warned that allowing money or influence to affect appointments would be unfair to the students who study hard for the tests. He also addressed the prosecution sanction against the suspended IAS officer Gynanendra Kumar Gangwar, former Controller of Examination in the KPSC, saying new facts have emerged and the sanction will help uncover the truth through the Directorate of Enforcement’s investigation.

Context

These steps are part of Karnataka’s broader push to improve transparency in public service recruitment and to curb corruption in competitive exams.
