The women's wing of the AP JAC Amaravati has urged the State government to grant two years of childcare leave to women employees, matching the benefit available to Central government workers. The association also wants separate toilets and childcare centres set up in government offices. These demands were part of four resolutions passed unanimously at a State-level conference held in Vijayawada on Sunday. During the meeting, which marked three years of the women's wing, a new 21-member State committee took charge for the 2026 to 2029 term. Ponnuru Vijayalakshmi was chosen as chairperson and P. Rajani took over as secretary general. Leaders noted that women employees played a key role in past agitations for pending dues like dearness allowance instalments and the 12th Pay Revision Commission. The newly formed committee plans to push for equal representation across all levels and intends to launch organised protests if their demands are not met.
Context
State employee associations in India frequently lobby governments for policy changes on welfare benefits, pay revisions, and workplace infrastructure. Childcare leave policies and facilities for female staff vary across different state and central departments, prompting employee groups to seek uniform standards.
