UPDATE - follow-up to Asian Games 2026 Live, Day 8: Sawan Barwal, Karthik Karkera in action: Sawan Barwal has won a silver medal in the men's marathon at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games with a national record time. Barwal finished behind Japan's Yamashita, who won the gold medal after pulling ahead in the final stages of the race. Barwal dropped about 26 seconds behind Yamashita near the end but held onto second place. Earlier in the race, Barwal ran alongside North Korea's Han Il Ryong and even took the lead when the lead pack slowed down near the half-marathon mark, before chasing a breakaway move by China's Peiyou Peng and Erenjia Jia. India's other marathon runner, Karthik Karkera, also competed in the event, starting strong with a rank of 8 at the 5-kilometer mark and 5 at the 10-kilometer mark before slipping back. This silver marks a rare long-distance podium finish for India at the Asiad.
