Mahindra has given its popular lifestyle off-road SUV a major overhaul, renaming the vehicle Thar OG and introducing a range of mechanical and design updates. Prices for the newly minted Thar OG start at Rs 10.32 lakh for the base AXT 1.5-litre diesel manual rear-wheel drive variant and go up to Rs 18.99 lakh for the top-spec ZXT 2.2-litre diesel automatic four-wheel drive version, with all prices listed as ex-showroom. While keeping the iconic exterior silhouette of the older Thar 3-Door, the new model is built on the M_Glyde 4G platform shared with the Thar Roxx. It features a completely revised front fascia with new LED projector headlights, C-shaped LED DRLs, updated bumpers, and ice-cube LED fog lights with dedicated cornering functions. The vehicle rides on larger 19-inch alloy wheels and includes all-four disc brakes, alongside a new rear bumper, updated LED tail lights, and special OG badging on the front fender and tailgate. Inside the cabin, updates include six airbags, Truffle Brown leatherette upholstery, a wireless charging pad, and a push-button start. Rear passengers get soft-touch armrest elements, cupholders, and a USB Type-C port, while rear AC vents carry over from previous updates. Steering effort has been significantly reduced thanks to a shift from a hydraulic setup to an electric power steering system. Under the hood, both the 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engines deliver increased performance with quieter, more refined operation, paired with new terrain modes and an electronically locking rear differential. Despite these additions, reviewers noted several missing features for the price point, including ventilated seats, a premium audio system, Level-2 ADAS, automatic climate control, a 360-degree camera, and a soft-top convertible variant. Braking at higher speeds remains uninspiring, and the price gap between petrol and diesel variants has widened to Rs 1.4 lakh.
