Meeting Details
The opposition India Bloc will hold a crucial meeting on September 30 at the Constitution Club of India in Delhi to discuss Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Major leaders from all constituent parties are expected to attend the gathering.
Background Talks
Discussions for this meeting picked up speed after talks between opposition leaders, including a phone call on Friday afternoon between CPI-M General Secretary MA Baby and AITC chief Mamata Banerjee. MA Baby had sent a letter on September 23 to opposition leaders proposing a joint strategy, to which Mamata Banerjee gave a positive response and called for putting aside differences to save democracy. The discussions also covered recent events in the Election Commission, allegations of electoral fraud, and the situation in West Bengal.
Expansion Plan
As part of the joint effort against the Chief Election Commissioner and alleged election manipulation, letters were also sent to other parties such as AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal, BJD chief Navin Patnaik, BRS, DMK, and TVK to bring them onto a common platform.
