A Mumbai motorcycle owner has shared a detailed one-month long-term report on the Aprilia RS 457 GP Replica after clocking 1,650 kilometres on the odometer.

Buying And Setup

Transitioning from a Suzuki Gixxer SF 250, the buyer waited two years after the bike's market launch to ensure early reliability issues were sorted out. Mumbai features only three dealers selling the motorcycle, all located roughly an hour away from the owner's residence. The purchase process was straightforward, and delivery took about a month. The buyer chose accessories like a USB charger, an extended windshield, and a seat cowl. The GP Replica Edition came with standard equipment including a quickshifter, sintered race pads, and an adjustable brake lever. Additional fittings added soon after purchase included tank pads, thigh grips, and fork seal covers.

Riding Experience

Powered by an engine with a 270-degree firing order that creates a growly exhaust note with pops and crackles, the bike offers an engaging ride. The factory-fitted Eurogrip Protorq Extreme tyres perform well in daily use. However, the stiffer suspension setup makes riding on Mumbai's uneven roads less comfortable.

Service And Issues

The first service took place at 1,000 kilometres following city rides and weekend trips to Lonavala. Mumbai has only two service centres, located in Chembur and Thane, which required booking an appointment a week in advance to avoid leaving the bike overnight. The first service cost Rs 4,063 and included an oil and oil filter change. Right after leaving the Chembur centre, the display randomly rebooted mid-ride, and the shift light became stuck and blinking at 3,870rpm. A diagnostic check at the service centre revealed a triggered tip-over sensor, which technicians fixed. However, the shift light issue persisted, requiring a future trip to the Thane service centre and a possible warranty replacement of the instrument cluster display.

Context

Long-term vehicle reviews by owners often highlight practical ownership challenges like service network limitations and parts availability that standard test rides miss. Dealership and service centre density in major cities like Mumbai plays a crucial role in the daily convenience of owning performance motorcycles from niche international brands.
