Former actor Asin and Micromax co-founder Rahul Sharma are raising their seven-year-old daughter, Arin Rayn Sharma, without any television or mobile phone screen time. During a recent interview with MyGov India, Rahul credited Asin with helping shape their daughter's impressive interest in languages. Seven-year-old Arin can already understand and speak about 12 languages, including Korean, Japanese, Thai, and Chinese, while Rahul joked that he and Asin are mostly stuck with English and Hindi. Rahul explained that their household relies entirely on books instead of screens. They reportedly own more books at home than Arin has at her school, with reading material for Classes 8 and 9 even though Arin is currently in Class 2. Rahul praised Asin for her dedication to parenting and for being the rock behind him through difficult circumstances since they married in January 2016.

Context

Asin enjoyed a successful acting career in South Indian cinema and Bollywood, starring in hit films such as Ghajini opposite Aamir Khan before stepping away from the film industry to focus on her family life. Limiting children's screen time and surrounding them with books from an early age is an approach some parents use to boost early learning and language skills.
