The India Meteorological Department has placed eight Telangana districts under cyclone alerts ahead of Cyclone Arnab’s expected landfall on the Andhra Pradesh coast on Wednesday, Oct 28, 2026. An orange alert – signalling heavy to very heavy rain – was issued for Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam and Mahabubabad districts, according to a special weather bulletin released on Monday, Oct 26, 2026. A yellow alert – indicating heavy rain – was issued for Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Suryapet, Warangal and Hanumakonda districts. Hyderabad city and its surrounding suburbs are forecast to see a generally cloudy sky with light to moderate rain or thundershowers and gusty winds likely. The IMD warned that the rain intensity in orange‑alert zones could disrupt daily activities and cause localized flooding. Residents in yellow‑alert zones were urged to stay alert for sudden downpours. The department reiterated that the alerts are precautionary measures as the cyclone moves inland toward the coast.

Context

Orange alerts denote the strongest rain warnings in the IMD’s cyclone grading system, while yellow alerts warn of significant but less severe precipitation. Such alerts help local authorities prepare emergency responses and advise the public to take safety precautions.
