Police have filed a case against influencer Amrit Singh Darren after he posted a video making communal remarks about a cafe in Fort Kochi. Amrit objected to an artwork at Kashi Art Cafe featuring Mahatma Gandhi and Pakistan founder Muhammad Ali Jinnah. He also criticised the sale of beef dishes and alleged that Fort Kochi has a high Muslim demographic, while claiming the state government accepts foreign funding to promote Islam. According to PTI, the police registered a case against him under Sections 353(2) and 192 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The FIR states that Amrit knew his actions could disturb public peace and lead to clashes between two religious communities. The video was posted around 6 AM on October 22. Chief Minister VD Satheesan condemned the remarks and stated that Keralam stands united with no place for communal hatred.

Reactions and Family Stance

Actor Ahaana Krishna's sister, Diya Krishna, faced heavy criticism for leaving a comment on the video that read "Sad reality." Diya initially took a break from social media, then released a statement explaining that her comment only referred to the Jinnah artwork and not the remarks about Muslims or beef consumption. She admitted it was a mistake to comment without watching the full video and issued an apology. Ahaana and her sister Hansika released a joint note stating that family members are separate individuals with different opinions and should not be held collectively responsible for each other's actions. Ahaana also noted that her marriage to Nimish Ravi was dragged into the discussions following the backlash.

Context

Fort Kochi is a historic coastal region known for its diverse population and culinary traditions where beef dishes are commonly consumed. Social media comments by public figures often face rapid public scrutiny and backlash when they touch upon sensitive communal subjects.
