Police in Bengaluru have detained three individuals connected to a fatal road rage episode where a pedestrian was beaten and struck by a vehicle. The victim, Ranjith Kumar Sahu, a cook from Bihar working at a rental lodging in the city, died from his wounds after being dragged by the car. The arrested suspects are Ajay Rabidas, 26, Sajal Namasudra, 19, and Bijoy Ray, 27, all originally from Assam, while a fourth suspect named Shyam Kohar remains at large. The tragedy took place on the night of October 21 near Pragathi Nagar under the jurisdiction of the Electronics City police station. Ranjith had traveled to the area to observe the Dasara festival with companions and was walking toward his brother's residence in Pragathipura to sleep for the night. As the group crossed a road, a speeding automobile drew close, prompting Ranjith to gesture for the driver to reduce speed. The car's occupants reacted with hostility, turned the vehicle around, returned, and physically attacked him. Following a call to other companions, a verbal altercation erupted between the two parties, leading the vehicle's occupants to drive directly at the group. Although the others escaped harm, the car struck Ranjith, rolled over his legs, and pulled him along the pavement for roughly 100 meters before being abandoned on the Hosur service road as the perpetrators fled. Ranjith sustained critical trauma to his head, chest, and right leg, and passed away on October 22 after being taken to a private medical facility in Madiwala. Investigators reviewed surveillance camera recordings and witness statements to track down the three suspects, and law enforcement teams are actively searching for the remaining fugitive.

Context

Road rage incidents often stem from minor traffic disputes that quickly escalate into violent altercations when drivers react aggressively to perceived slights. Urban areas with heavy traffic and late-night movement frequently see heightened tensions on the roads, particularly during festival periods. Police forces generally rely on surveillance networks and witness testimonies to trace suspects who flee the scene of such crimes.
