Indian shot putter Tajinderpal Singh Toor won a silver medal at the Asian Games with a best throw of 20.64 metres, missing out on a hat-trick of gold medals. Iran's Mohammadreza Tayebise took the gold with a throw of 20.81 metres, which also surpassed Toor's previous Asian Games record of 20.75 metres. Following the event, Toor dedicated his medal to his 10-month-old daughter, Rabab Kaur Toor, calling her his lucky mascot and noting that her birth helped heal the pain of two previous miscarriages his wife experienced. Toor, who is 31 and hails from Khosa Pando village in Moga district, viewed the podium finish as a strong response to critics who questioned his ability after a third-place finish at the Inter-State National Championships in Bhubaneswar earlier this year. At the Inter-State event, he finished behind Karamveer Singh and Samardeep Gill, while Karamveer placed 10th as the only other Indian in the final. Toor's career has been heavily impacted by various injuries, including a Grade-One calf tear before the Commonwealth Games, a groin injury prior to the Tokyo Olympics, a knee issue before Hangzhou, and an ankle injury six months before Paris. Despite these physical hurdles and adjusting his technique under coach MS Dhillon, Toor secured his third Asian Games medal and maintains confidence that he can achieve a 22-metre throw in the future.
