Cloud computing revenues for major providers could cross one trillion dollars every year by 2030. A new study by BlackRock says this big jump comes from a high need for computer processing power to build and run artificial intelligence systems. The study points out that computing capacity is turning into a key economic asset as artificial intelligence and blockchain digital assets come together. Processing power is growing into a major market for digital assets where standard claims on hardware offer a way for financing and payment. As software agents get better at working on their own, liquid compute markets let these systems find, use, and pay for hardware directly.
AI And Money
Artificial intelligence and digital assets share a basic link because artificial intelligence gives machine intelligence while digital assets give machine money. This mix matters most with agentic artificial intelligence, which means systems that can plan and carry out steps across outside networks with little human help. Both fields use similar token models. Large language models break text into tokens for math checks, while public ledgers save economic rights as tokens for machine checks.
Payments And Future
Agentic commerce needs programmable payment rails because normal banking systems have rules and costs that do not fit continuous, small-value payments. Because of this, software systems use stablecoins and special transfer protocols like x402 and ACP. The report says the current market is still in early days, and volume remains small. Even so, as machine independence grows, digital assets and base settlement cryptocurrencies are set to form the base for machine-to-machine financial work.
ExplainerWhy this matters
What Happened
A BlackRock report projects that hyperscaler cloud revenues will surpass USD 1 trillion annually by 2030, driven by AI computing demand and the convergence of AI with blockchain digital assets.
Why It Matters
This convergence creates new economic frameworks where AI systems can autonomously manage, finance, and pay for physical computing infrastructure using programmable digital money and microtransaction protocols, shifting how digital resources are bought and sold.
What Happens Next
Adoption will depend on how quickly machine autonomy advances and whether stablecoins and specialized protocols like x402 and ACP become widely accepted standards for machine-to-machine financial transactions.
