Registration Details

The registration window for GATE 2027 without a late fee closes today, September 27. Applicants who miss today's regular deadline can still apply by paying a late fee until October 5. Indian nationals must use a verified DigiLocker account to complete the mandatory registration process on the official website at gate2027.iitm.ac.in.

Exam Format and Changes

IIT Madras is organizing the examination for February 2027 across 30 test papers. A new Robotics and Automation test paper has been introduced this year, bringing the total number of papers to 30. The commission also updated the syllabus, paper codes, and structure for XE, XH, and XL, meaning students should check current details instead of using old versions. Test takers can apply for one or two papers, provided the second paper matches the permitted combinations listed in a single application.

Test Structure and Use

The exam remains a three-hour computer test worth 100 marks with 65 questions, covering General Aptitude and the chosen subject. Question formats include multiple choice, multiple select, and numerical answer types, with negative marking applying only to wrong multiple choice answers. Scores stay valid for three years from the result date and help students secure admission to postgraduate and doctoral programs or jobs in participating public sector organizations.
