Indian athletes chase multiple medals on the tenth day of the Nagoya Asian Games, led by the women's 25m pistol shooting squad and the men's cricket team beginning their title defence against Afghanistan.

Shooting and Cricket

Shooters Manu Bhaker, Esha Singh, and Rahi Sarnobat return to the range for the 25m pistol individual rapid qualification and team final. After the precision round, Esha held the top Indian spot in fourteenth with two hundred and ninety points, while Rahi and Manu both scored two hundred and eighty-seven to sit fifteenth and sixteenth respectively. Meanwhile, the men's cricket squad starts its journey to defend the gold medal against Afghanistan.

Athletics Events

Track and field action features Seema and Sanya Yadav in the women's discus throw, followed by Vithya Ramaraj and Anu Raghavan competing in the women's 400m hurdles final. Avinash Sable aims for a podium finish in the men's 3000m steeplechase, while Sreeshankar Murali and David Solomon enter the men's long jump. Javelin throwers step up without Neeraj Chopra, facing tough rivals including Sri Lanka's Rumesh Pathirage and Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem, alongside Seema and Parul Chaudhary in the women's 5000m final.

Archery Results

In compound archery, Sahil Rajesh Jadhav defeated Mongolia's Jamiyangombo Purevdorj one hundred and forty-nine to one hundred and thirty-seven to reach the pre-quarters, hitting the bullseye on his first arrow in all five sets. Thirumuru Ganesh Maniratnam also advanced by beating Indonesia's Sostar Andaru Rinaldi one hundred and forty-four to one hundred and forty-two. The two Indians then faced each other in the next round, where Thirumuru won a close battle one hundred and forty-nine to one hundred and forty-eight to enter the quarterfinals.

Recent Setbacks

Sunday brought several near-misses for the Indian contingent. Ancy Sojan lost the women's long jump gold by just two centimetres when China's Yingying Huang jumped six point five five metres to beat Ancy's best of six point five three metres, leaving the Indian with silver after a late final-round push. Shaili Singh missed out on a bronze medal in the final round, high jumper Sarvesh Kushare missed a height he had cleared previously in the absence of Mutaz Barshim, and decathlete Tejaswin Shankar settled for bronze.

Context

With only seven days remaining in the multi-sport event, the athletics team is still searching for its first gold medal of these Games. Matching the six athletics golds and the total tally of one hundred and seven medals achieved at the previous Hangzhou edition appears challenging as the competition enters its final phase.
