Skoda Auto Volkswagen India has started production of the updated Slavia sedan at its Chakan plant in Pune, with an official market launch scheduled for October 6, 2026. Pre-bookings for the car are currently open for Rs 15,000, bringing the vehicle closer to showrooms ahead of the festive season. Piyush Arora, Managing Director and CEO of Skoda Auto Volkswagen India, stated that the new model builds on existing strengths with improvements in technology, comfort and convenience. The sedan has recorded nearly 80,000 sales in India since its original launch and commands close to 30 percent of its market segment.
Design And Features
The exterior styling features a sharp look with an updated grille, restyled bumpers, and new LED headlights with a revised daytime running light signature. Side updates include new 16-inch alloy wheel designs, while the rear gets revised LED tail lamps with sequential turn indicators. The colour palette now spans 10 options, adding Arctic Silver and Cappuccino Beige shades, with Cappuccino shipments set to start in December 2026. The top Monte Carlo trim adds black alloy wheels, red brake callipers, red grille accents, fender badging, a rear lip spoiler, and a black cabin with red contrasts. Inside, the cabin retains its familiar layout while upgrading technology. The car adds a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a new 10.1-inch infotainment screen supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, alongside an AI Companion powered by Google Cloud. Additional comfort upgrades include a single-pane sunroof, powered and ventilated front seats, a segment-first rear-seat massage function, and a 360-degree Area View camera. Skoda also improved air conditioning performance by replacing the fixed-geometry compressor with a variable-geometry unit.
Mechanical Updates
Under the hood, the facelift retains the 115hp 1.0-litre and 150hp 1.5-litre direct-injection turbo-petrol engines. A major mechanical change pairs the 1.0 TSI engine with a new eight-speed torque-converter automatic gearbox, replacing the older six-speed unit. The 1.5-litre engine continues exclusively with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The car maintains its five-star Global NCAP safety rating.
Context
Automakers in India frequently time major vehicle refreshes and production kickoffs to coincide with the festive shopping season to capture higher consumer demand. The mid-size sedan segment remains competitive, requiring regular feature updates and new automatic transmission options to maintain market share against established rivals like the Honda City and Hyundai Verna.
