Renault has introduced its new Duster Hybrid in India with a starting price of Rs 16.99 lakh for the Evolution variant, while the top Emotion model costs Rs 19.49 lakh. This vehicle aims to revive the brand's presence after initial sales faltered following the SUV's launch six months ago. The hybrid model comes with a 1.8-litre, naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine paired with an E-Tech system, producing a combined output of 160PS. It features a 1.4kWh battery and delivers a certified fuel efficiency of 29 kilometres per litre.
Performance and Features
The transmission uses a clutchless, dog-clutch setup with four ratios for the engine and two for the electric motor. It accelerates from zero to 100 kph in 9.6 seconds and provides instant torque of 208Nm from the electric motor. Inside, the cabin receives lighter Dune Brown leatherette upholstery to address previous complaints of a dark interior. However, features like ADAS, the 360-degree camera, and the auto-dimming mirror were removed to manage costs, leaving the car with a reduced boot space of 372 litres compared to the standard 518 litres. Renault offers a standard seven-year warranty on the complete car and an eight-year warranty specifically for the battery pack.
Context
Automobile manufacturers frequently introduce hybrid variants to bridge the gap between traditional internal combustion engines and fully electric vehicles, offering high fuel economy without requiring external charging infrastructure. The mid-size SUV segment in India is fiercely competitive, with brands constantly adjusting pricing and features to attract buyers looking for modern powertrains.
