Talks Underway
Former Gujarat Chief Minister Shankersinh Vaghela has confirmed that he is in talks with the Congress high command regarding a possible return to the party. Vaghela stated that he has no desire to hold any post or position, but made it clear that he is ready to offer help and support to fight against the BJP. No final decision on joining the party has been announced yet.
Leader Reactions
Congress leader Kirit Patel reacted to the speculation by calling Vaghela a respected leader and stating that the party should accept him if he wishes to join. Patel pointed out that Vaghela has worked in important roles for long periods in both the BJP and Congress organizations. Meanwhile, Gujarat Congress President Amit Chavda stated that talks are ongoing and claimed that many big leaders will join Congress before the 2027 Gujarat assembly elections. Chavda added that the Congress party is the only option to fight the BJP together, while noting that Vaghela himself will answer whether his entire party will merge with Congress.
Context
Party switches and high-level talks among senior politicians often increase in frequency as state assembly elections approach. Such political developments tend to draw significant attention as parties try to strengthen their leadership and organizational reach.
