Desai took the top job at MongoDB less than a year ago. Reports suggest he received a direct offer from Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg that he could not refuse.
New Role
In his new role as chief enterprise platform officer, Desai will focus on turning Meta's AI stack into ready-to-deploy products for businesses. He will report directly to Zuckerberg. Zuckerberg announced this new enterprise AI platform on Monday, September 28, following the rollout of Meta's Muse personal AI agent. Meta enters a crowded enterprise AI market dominated by cloud giants like Amazon, Google, and Microsoft, alongside startups like Anthropic and OpenAI. Desai spent his early years in India before moving to the US in 1993, later earning dual master's degrees from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 1995. His past career includes leadership stints at Oracle, Symantec, EMC, ServiceNow, Cloudflare, and MongoDB. Following Desai's exit, MongoDB's stock fell 19 per cent. MongoDB has brought back Dev Ittycheria as interim president and CEO.
