Volkswagen will show the all-electric ID Tiguan to the public in early October before it hits global markets in early 2027. This new vehicle will take the place of the ID 4 and ID 5 models in the company lineup. At the same time, the regular fuel and hybrid versions of the Tiguan will stay on sale around the world.

Design And Size

The upcoming SUV features a fresh exterior style with thin headlights, a new tail light layout, and large alloy wheels up to 21 inches. It measures 44mm longer than the ID 4 to give passengers extra room inside. For comparison, the older ID 4 measures 4,584mm in length, 1,852mm in width, and 1,639mm in height, with a 2,765mm wheelbase.

Cabin And Controls

Volkswagen has not shown the complete interior yet, but it promises a bigger cabin and fresh tech features. The inside is also set to bring back real buttons on the steering wheel and a separate control panel on the dashboard for easier use.

Power And Batteries

The vehicle sits on the MEB+ platform, which also supports the ID Polo and Skoda Epiq. It is expected to use the same 58kWh and 77kWh battery choices found in the ID 4. The 58kWh pack likely goes to the base model, while the 77kWh pack is meant for the Pro and dual-motor Pro 4Motion versions. The older ID 4 gets up to 364km of range from the 58kWh battery and between 512km and 572km from the 77kWh battery, with power levels spanning 170 to 340 horsepower. Final power and range numbers for the new model are still unconfirmed.

Context

Car makers are rapidly updating their electric vehicle line-ups to offer better range and cabin space while moving away from older designs. Moving to shared platforms like the MEB+ helps companies build multiple new models more easily and keep costs down.
